Air-Mechanical Expanding ShaftsShafts that clamp pneumatic-mechanically combine the advantages of both mechanical and pneumatic shafts. They guarantee a 100% centrically-run roll and can also be clamped and relaxed pneumatically quickly and without effort.
The use of pneumatic-mechanical shafts can strongly improve the safety of a system. If the pneumatic is only in use to relax the system, then there is no danger to the quality of a product in the event of a failure concerning the auxiliary power. While operating, the roll is safely grabbed without the use of external energy as a result of spring tension (see drawing). The absolutely centric clamping of pneumatic-mechanical shafts is necessary for clamping sensitive materials or at high speeds.
Special constructions of pneumatic-mechanical shafts are also used for coreless winding of spools. An absolutely centric run with all diameters is guaranteed. Pneumatic-mechanical adapters have even in narrow construction forms enough clamping force and still have the advantage of winding absolutely centric.
Specially constructed pneumatic-mechanical shafts can reach expansion ranges of more than 20% of the nominal diameter.
